Visiting Collioure, on the edge of the Mediterranean Sea

A hotel in a lively town in the South of France

Collioure is a Mediterranean port offering a unique ambiance both day and night. You can stroll around its cobblestone streets, go for a tasting at a good wine merchant’s, take a walk along the harbour, check out all the lovely items on sale at a traditional market, all the typical colours and fragrances and the very archetype of a hotel in Languedoc-Roussillon - a chance to explore the real south!

Collioure, culture and heritage

Château Royal de Collioure, Fort Saint Elme, etc.

Staying at the Le Mas des Citronniers hotel in Collioure is also a great way of enjoying the town’s rich heritage. The town is steeped in history and offers a unique ambiance - the Château Royal was a favourite summer resort for the kings of Spain. Further up, the Fort Saint Elme, which dates back to the 15th century and was later redesigned by Vauban, houses a museum of the Renaissance as well as offering an amazing view out over the town, the sea and the whole of the coastline. All of this is just a stone’s throw from our hotel on the edge of the Mediterranean!

Collioure, the painters’ town

At the heart of Fauvism

Attracted by the town’s unique light, the initiators of Fauvism chose to live in Collioure and create their major works: Matisse, Derain, Terrus, Maillol… Their presence permeates the town. This artistic heritage is still to be found in the art galleries that give Collioure its worldwide reputation.

Walks in Collioure and exploring nature

The Chemin des Douaniers (customs footpath) running along the coastline

The Catalan south is still a well-preserved geographical area which has managed to retain both its nature and its living environment. From the sea (rocky or sandy coast) to the mountains and the foothills of the Pyrenees, the region offers a variety of landscapes and amazing views as well as plenty of opportunities for walking, cycling or horse-riding. Based in Collioure, amongst other things you can explore the Chemin des Douaniers, the coastal footpath, the coves, etc.

Local produce to enjoy

A whole culture to explore

Here in the Eastern Pyrenees the winegrowing tradition goes back centuries. There isn‘t a single road - or even a path! - that doesn’t lead to an estate, a producer and a tradition. Wherever you go you can visit properties, taste robust red wines, light rosés or sweet wines and chat with enthusiastic winegrowers, all offering a perfect opportunity to learn about one of the mainstays of Mediterranean culture.

Sport and activities

Catering to all tastes

There’s plenty for active types both in the area around Collioure and in the Eastern Pyrenees as a whole. Hikes or walks, mountain biking, etc. Then there are water sports such as windsurfing, paddle-surfing, kitesurfing, jet skiing in the summer and scuba diving... or else you could simply lie back and enjoy Collioure’s beach. Then if you come to stay in the winter, you’ll be able to enjoy skiing , or go on walks, etc.

There’s plenty for the kids too

Activities for the whole family

Kids should also be able to go off exploring or get active when they’re on holiday.
With thrills and spills at a water park, a treetop adventure course,
or getting up close and personal with animals (Tortoise Valley, the Sigean Reserve),
the department is definitely child-friendly!
